Hammerfest – Northernmost city in the world!
Ha! We made it!
We drove almost 2000 km, visited 4 countries in 4 days, traveled through frozen Lapland, didn’t hit Santas reindeers at all, composed a song, raised some serious questions about human race, and made it right on time to eat pizza with a men who successfully prescribed the most powerful contact lens on Earth!
Now we live in a very cosy apartment, with a view over a fjord and a city. On a horizon we see 20 m hight fire burning in a Snøhvit – the biggest natural gas land refinery in this part of a world. Temperature is around 2*C and is getting colder every day. So far north (we are higher north then Murmańsk!) there are almost no trees and very few plants at all, so the landscape is mostly yellowish and grey. City itself has around 10 000 inhabitants and looks industrial, cold and strange. People are on the other hand warm and open, so it all seems as a very interesting place to be.
From 22nd november it’s going to be completely dark for almost three months, so we also went to sneak around and take some photos.
This is Lapland:
